A spectacular Railway Industry Memorial was unveiled at the National Memorial Arboretum in Staffordshire on May 22nd 2012.

 

The British Transport Pensioners Federation were the driving force behind the event.,

 

Vice president Sam Reed said: "We want this to be a place where people can come and reflect in quiet solitude and pay their respects, whether it be to loved ones, friends or simply the unsung heroes from across the industry."

 

The carving of a Class 8F steam engine in black granite rests on top of a plinth, which includes an impressive montage of images representing the railway industry.

 

The special service at which Mr Maurice Holmes, BTPF president gave an address, was prepared and conducted by Railway Mission Chaplain Rev. James Lindsay . The Lord Lieutenant of Staffordshire Ian Dudson and former British Rail chairman Sir Bob Reid unveiled and dedicated the memorial in front of 1000 attendees!
